If you have a home with a crawl space—or are building or buying one—you have several options on what to do with that particular foundation type. Most crawl spaces are vented to the outdoors, but over the past decade, encapsulating the crawl space (as shown below) has gained favor among builders of green and energy efficient homes. It’s often seen as the best way to eliminate the moisture problems that often result from vented crawl spaces.
But what do you do about the air down there?
What’s the best way to deal with the air in a crawl space?
Why use a dew point comparison and not a humidistat?
A humidity reading in the crawlspace alone will never give you the whole story as humidity is relative to temperature and constantly changing as temperature levels change. Also ventilating the crawlspace will only improve the moisture levels if the outside air is drier than what is already there. We use sensors to measure and calculate dew point to determine when fans should run.
Crawlspace Ventilation for the ENTIRE Crawlspace
Our Crawlspace System and Fans are designed as a modular system to adapt to various crawlspace sizes and layouts.
Fans are designed to be lower in CFM power to more evenly distribute air throughout the entire crawlspace and designed as either exhaust or intake models. Additionally, we use internal joist-mounted fans to circulate air within the crawlspace to reach corners and other dead space areas to displace moisture trapped in these areas.
Crawlspace Ventilation with Low Voltage 12V DC Wiring
We install with no need for an electrician. Our system uses one electrical outlet for control, sensors and power supply. This does not need to be placed in the crawlspace and could be in a nearby
garage, closet or utility room. All fans receive power from this one power supply via 12VDC low voltage cable. It is an easy “plug and play” setup.
Incorporation of Optional Dehumidifier
Some geographic areas and certain crawlspaces suffer from excessive ground moisture and extreme climates. In those instances when a secondary drying action is needed, the our system will incorporate a dehumidifier to be used efficiently and effectively only in peak situations. Dehumidifiers are great tools
but have drawbacks if used independently in a crawlspace.
