SUCCESSES:

2008 Legislative Session

  • Passed landmark Off Highway Vehicle Legislation   -worked with a broad cross-section of stakeholders to obtain passage of this bill

  • Amended Transportation Infrastructure Initiative (TIME Initiative) to ensure game species eligibility  (original draft only provided for non-game species eligibility)for $42 million in annual grants to mitigate impact of transportation infrastructure corridors on wildlife

  • Organized comprehensive communication effort on behalf of major wildlife conservation groups to oppose HR3287 Tumacacori Highlands Wilderness Act – To date there has been no action taken on the bill

  • Provided comments to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regarding scoping of Kofa National Wildlife Refuge Environmental Assessment for management of mountain lions

  • Passed wildlife license plate bill out of House

  • Gained support of Arizona Cattlemen’s Association to participate in Public Land Access Working Group to identify solutions to accessing public lands – Two meetings held to date with next meeting scheduled for October.

  • Provided comments to Arizona Game & Fish regarding expansion of wolf recovery area

  • Currently planning 2nd Annual AZSFW Policy Development Forum

  • Created Political Action Committee (AZSFW PAC) for sportsmen

  • Made a measurable difference in 2008 Primary Election in targeted legislative districts
